Left or Right, Siri? — Lucius Bluenote Carter

Left or Right, Siri? is a sleek instrumental built around movement, atmosphere and the magnetic pull of a late-night groove. Rather than following a conventional vocal narrative, the track lets the tenor saxophone do the talking, becoming its expressive lead voice and carrying the music through a sophisticated meeting of psychedelic soul, deep house and disco-funk.

A warm four-on-the-floor pulse provides the foundation, joined by an elastic melodic bassline, clipped funk guitar, Rhodes electric piano, subtle clavinet and layers of hand percussion. Filtered analogue synth textures, restrained strings and atmospheric pads broaden the sound without crowding the arrangement, while occasional phasing and tape-like movement add a gently psychedelic edge.

At the centre is the tenor saxophone: warm, sensual and deliberately spacious. Long held notes, blues-inflected bends and recurring melodic motifs allow it to make an impression without dominating every moment. Extended instrumental passages give the groove room to develop naturally, including a filtered breakdown in which the saxophone seems to recede into the distance before returning with renewed force.

Cool, polished and hypnotic, Left or Right, Siri? balances organic musicianship with contemporary electronic production, creating an elegant, emotionally charged groove made for movement.
