Right in Front of Me

Reflective soul-jazz with Hammond B3, clean electric guitar and Fender Rhodes

Right in Front of Me finds Isaac B. Cole reflecting on the plans that never worked out, the dreams that slipped away, and the unexpected wisdom that comes with growing older. It is a song about learning to appreciate what life has already placed within reach, rather than continually searching for something more. Isaac's exceptionally deep, velvety bass-baritone brings warmth and intimacy to the story. His restrained, conversational delivery gives each observation room to settle, while the relaxed soul-jazz arrangement recalls the natural dynamics and close atmosphere of a 1970s recording studio. At the heart of the music is a beautifully expressive clean electric guitar, its sustained notes and lyrical bends answered by the rich, melodic voice of a Hammond B3 organ. Spacious Fender Rhodes chords, a deep electric bass and unhurried acoustic drums provide a gentle rhythmic foundation. Extended instrumental passages allow the guitar and Hammond to develop their musical conversation, with expressive pauses and melodic exchanges that complement the reflective lyrics. There is no grand declaration or dramatic revelation. Instead, Right in Front of Me offers something quieter: the recognition that peace of mind often begins when we stop chasing tomorrow and appreciate what is already here.

Lyrics

Spent half my life making plans Most of 'em never came true Chased a lot of empty dreams Thought they'd see me through Had my share of good intentions Made mistakes along the way Funny what you learn with time Funny what you throw away Some things come when you're ready Some come out of the blue Took me years to understand What was right in front of me Used to think getting older Meant I'd understand Some things slipped right through me Some stayed in my hands Still got a few questions Still lose my way sometimes Don't need all the answers Just a little peace of mind Yeah Some things come when you're ready Some come out of the blue Took me years to understand What was right in front of me Don't need to chase tomorrow Got enough right here Things I used to worry over Somehow disappeared That's right Some things come when you're ready Some come out of the blue Took me years to understand What was right in front of me Yeah Let it ride
