Who are the voices?
There is no single answer to who — or what — you are hearing on a Sessions on the Green® recording.
Some voices belong to real performers. Other recordings use characters and musical identities created for particular songs, styles and worlds.
Our work includes contemporary production technology and generative tools. Different recordings come together in different ways. We want listeners to understand that creative freedom, and the choices behind it.
Not all artists want the stage
Parichad is a real performer. She enjoys making music and contributing to the work, without seeking touring, a public persona or a career in the spotlight.
She simply wants to make music. Sessions on the Green gives her somewhere to do that.
Her recordings may be shaped and enhanced using contemporary production technology. The tools may be newer, but the person behind the performance remains real.
A voice for the song
A song can suggest a personality, a setting or a voice that does not yet exist within our circle. Created recording characters let us explore those possibilities, much as writers and filmmakers create characters through whom stories can be told.
The work still involves writing, imagining, experimenting, choosing, rejecting and deciding what belongs.
The means of bringing a voice to life may change. The responsibility for what we create remains ours.
Knowing when to let go
An idea changes. A voice appears. A line is rewritten. Something unexpected becomes the part we keep.
Eventually, there comes a moment when we stop changing it. Not because it is perfect. Because it has become what it needed to be.
Then we let it go.
