Stories Beneath the Temple Sky — The Sessions Collective with Parichad

Stories Beneath the Temple Sky is a contemplative musical and visual journey through Wat Santi Wanaram, the White Lotus Temple in Ban Chiang, Thailand. The accompanying film features photographs taken by Peter Pickering on 21 August 2026, following the temple’s remarkable murals as they tell the story of the Buddha’s life chronologically, from birth through to death. Parichad helped identify the narrative sequence, allowing the paintings to unfold in their intended order.

The music moves with the same sense of quiet progression. Warm resonant piano, sustained strings, delicate bamboo flute, subtle temple bells, low drones and sparse organic percussion create a spacious setting in which each image has room to breathe. Slow harmonic movement and generous silence give the piece an atmosphere of reflection rather than ceremony.

Parichad’s distant, breathy non-word vocalising drifts through the arrangement in soft “ah” and “ooh” phrases. Surrounded by long natural reverberation, her voice becomes part of the musical landscape rather than a conventional lead performance.

Together, music and imagery form a gentle journey through art, place and story — from the beginning of a life depicted beneath the temple sky to its final scenes, with moments of architecture, sculpture and quiet detail woven between the painted chapters.
