A little update from Sessions on the Green®

We've continued creating and releasing music at much the same pace as always and, if anything, we believe the quality of what we're producing is somehow continuing to improve.

Behind the scenes, however, something has changed quite considerably.

During the last 28 days, Sessions has had 2.1 million views — an extraordinary number for which we're very grateful — but that's 40% fewer views than the previous period. Watch time is down by a similar amount, and our YouTube revenue has fallen by 43%.

At the same time, another 919 people subscribed to Sessions during those 28 days, taking this rather remarkable community to more than 25,000 subscribers.

The people who are finding the music are still listening. The measures we watch to understand whether people are interested in what we're producing remain extremely strong. What's changed substantially is the amount of exposure the music is receiving through YouTube.

We're not going to speculate here about why that's happening. Algorithms change, platforms change and independent creators have very little control over either.

But there is a practical consequence.

Sessions is an independent studio. YouTube revenue helps pay for the continuing costs of music production, software, distribution, video production, the studios themselves and maintaining an increasingly large catalogue of music.

When views fall, that income falls with them. The costs, unfortunately, don't.

We're not going anywhere, and we're certainly not going to start taking the ordinary Sessions experience away from people and putting it behind a paywall.

Instead, we're putting considerably more thought into Sessions membership.

For those who would like to support the studio directly, membership now includes early access to selected new releases, stories behind the songs, previews and behind-the-scenes material, and at the higher levels a much closer conversation about what we're creating and where Sessions goes next.

Even the smallest membership makes a difference when enough people choose to support an independent studio.
