There’s a kind of joy that comes with anonymity — a peace most people don’t think about until it’s gone.
No photographers in your face.
No paparazzi hiding in the bushes.
No autograph hunters leaning over your dinner table, or strangers interrupting a moment with family to take a selfie.
For some, that’s the price of fame. For others, it’s a price too high to pay.
At Sessions on the Green, we chose the quieter path — deliberately. Privacy, peace, and creative freedom over the glare of the spotlight. And I don’t think any of us regret it for a second.
Many years ago — more than thirty now — I had a girlfriend who adored the spotlight. She wasn’t an entertainer, but she loved being around people who were. She liked to be seen, liked the energy, the show of it all. Gradually, she started shaping me into someone I wasn’t — the look, the clothes, the hair. My hair got longer, slicked back, tied in a short ponytail. The sharp suit, the Persol sunglasses… before long, people started stopping me on the street.
Then one day, we were at Movie World on the Gold Coast. People kept asking for photos with me. I couldn’t understand why. Finally, someone explained — they thought I was Jack Nicholson.
At first it was funny. Then it got tiresome. But the best moment came when an American tourist, after getting his photo, leaned in and quietly said, “You know, I’m a friend of Jack’s. When I get back to the States, I can’t wait to show him this. He’ll be amazed how alike you look.”
I laughed, but it made me think. Fame — or even the illusion of it — is a strange thing. Some chase it all their lives. Others stumble into it and spend the rest of their days wishing for the peace they once had.
Anonymity means freedom — freedom to walk, to think, to create, to live without intrusion or expectation. It’s not hiding. It’s being.
Here, within Sessions on the Green, that’s what we stand for. Music made quietly, honestly, without masks or flashbulbs. No gossip, no headlines — just art, emotion, and connection.
We don’t need to be seen.
We just need to be heard.
