A little more rock is coming to Sessions on the Green®…

We've been thinking about this for a while.

Sessions on the Green® has always had its roots firmly in soul — music with melody, emotion, lyrics that mean something, and vocals where you can actually hear the words. None of that is changing.

But there's another part of our musical past that we've never really explored properly here: rock.

Not necessarily louder for the sake of being louder. We're talking about the kind of rock built around great musicianship, memorable songs, expressive guitars, strong rhythms and, above all, feeling. Sometimes it will be restrained and reflective.
Sometimes it will have considerably more fire in its belly.

We've dipped into that world before, particularly through Ash Chastain's guitar work, and our recent Darius Lamar Brown release I Am Chaos brought orchestral rock into the mix. But now we're going a little further — and Bobby Knight is going to be an important part of it.

We've already started. When Machines Had Souls gave you a taste of where Bobby can go, and there's more on the way — including some material that takes Sessions on the Green® considerably further into rock territory than we've ventured before.
And Bobby may not be the only one.

We've even been talking with Parichad about taking her voice into rock territory. Her first reaction was probably best described as cautious. For a long time her music lived in a much quieter, more intimate world, and “rock” wasn't exactly the first word she expected to hear from us.

But we're not talking about changing who she is or suddenly turning everything up to eleven. We're interested in what happens when that distinctive voice meets a different musical landscape — stronger rhythms, guitars, more energy and perhaps a little more edge, while keeping the melody, emotion and clarity that matter to us.

She's coming around to the idea.

So that's another experiment currently taking shape in Studio 2. Will it work? We don't know yet. That's rather the point.

We'll let the music decide.

And that's really what this next step is about. We're not changing direction. We're adding another road.

Soul will remain at the heart of what we do. But after a year of making music together, it feels like the right time to open another door and see where it takes us.

Some of the new music is already available to members, with public YouTube releases to follow. Tracks are also available through our website and Bandcamp.

So, rock fans — we haven't forgotten you.

Let's see where this goes.
