In 1965, Bob Dylan walked onto the stage at the Newport Folk Festival carrying something many fans never expected to see.

An electric guitar.

Until then, Dylan had become the voice of the American folk movement, performing largely with an acoustic guitar and harmonica. But that evening he appeared with a band and plugged in.

Some members of the audience were thrilled.

Others were shocked.

Boos could be heard alongside the applause. For many, it felt as though folk music itself had changed in a single performance.

History tells a different story.

That controversial appearance became one of the defining moments in modern music. It helped open the door for folk rock and inspired countless artists to experiment rather than stay within the expectations of their audience.

Today, it stands as a reminder that every new musical direction seems unusual at first.

Sometimes the biggest risk an artist can take is simply following the music wherever it leads.

🎵 Question:

If you had been in the audience that night, do you think you would have cheered… or booed?
